Nowadays it’s a common phenomenon that parents drive their children to school and back

home, which causes a heated discussion.  A survey has just been conducted about it, and the

          findings are as follows.

We can see that half of the supporters believe that more valuable time can be saved for students

to get enough sleep. Another 30% think children can rest or have meals comfortably in their own

cars. About 15% consider it reasonable just for the sake of children’s safety. The rest of them think

it offers more chances for parents to communicate with their children.

However, there are still many people who hold different opinions. 55% of them believe that it

results in more traffic jams, especially around schools in rush hours. And 30% think that driving

kids to and from school will undoubtedly add to the parents’ burdens in aspects like time, energy

and expenses. Still, 15% worry that in the long term children may be more dependent on their

parents, which does no good to them.

In the picture we can see two kids looking at the sun shining far away behind the mountains, to

which a winding path leads. Obviously they are expecting a promising future, but there is a long way

to go and they will meet with some difficulties and challenges on their way to their dreams. The key

to success is great determination and a strong will. Like the two kids, we are faced with difficulties

and challenges every day. It is only when we make up our minds and work heart and soul that we

will live our lives to the fullest and reach our goals at last.

M: Could you tell me what time it is? I’m going to meet my uncle at the station at 10: 15.

W: It’s five minutes to ten by my watch.

          Text 2

M: Would you like some hot coffee or tea?

W: I do like them both, but I’d rather have something cold.

          Text 3

M: The car was a total loss. Did you see it?

W: Yes. Can you imagine three women and a baby were in the horrible accident without being hurt?

          Text 4

M: Hi, Mary, any plans for the weekend? I’d like you to see a new film with me.

W: I wish I could, but there’s a test next Monday and I must do my work.

          Text 5

M: Good morning, madam. Can I help you?

W: Yes. Can I have my bill settled? My name is Linda Taylor and my room number is 1108.

          Text 6

M: Jane, I hear you are leaving school soon. What do you want to do? Have you made up your mind

              yet?

W: No, but I think I’m going to take up singing.

          M: Any special reasons?

W: Yes. It’s because I am good at singing, and I have a good voice. Besides, singing is very.

             interesting.

M: And what do your parents think about it?

W: They are trying to send me to a college of art because they want me to be an actress.

          Text 7[Ring.....]

          W: Dr. Carter’s Office.

M: Yes, I’d like to make an appointment to see Dr. Carter, please.

W: Okay. What’s the purpose of your visit?

M: Well, I fell from a ladder yesterday while painting my house. I suffered a few scratches on my

             knees.

W: Did you put ice on it immediately after that?

M: Yes, but it doesn’t work.

W: Well, please come right away. I don’t think your case can wait.

          Text 8

M: When can I expect you for dinner? Can you come this evening?

W: Sorry. I promised to go to a concert with my sister. And tomorrow I’ll see my doctor.

M: Well, how about the day after tomorrow, then?

          W: That sounds fine.

M: Good. Shall we say seven o’clock?

          W: I’ll be there! You’re still a wonderful cook, aren’t you?

M: That’ll be for you to decide. I’ve got a new dish that I want to try out on you.

W: I’m ready. See you on Friday!

          Text 9

W: Dad, can I go to a movie with Sharon?

M: Yeah, sure, but wait. Did you receive your report card?

W: I love you Dad! You’re the best!

M: Don’t try to butter me up. I guess you didn’t do well in some of your classes.

W: Well, my Spanish teacher is so boring, and he becomes annoyed every time someone talks.

M: In other words, you’re not doing so well?

          W: Uh, a C ... minus. Can I go now?

M: And how are you doing in history?

W: Oh, that’s my favorite class. Mr. Jones is always passing out candy if you know the answers to

his questions. Ah, Dad. Can I go now?

M: You can go if you answer my history question. How old am I?

          W: Uh, fifty-five?

M: Fifty-five! You just failed a math and history test at the same time!

          W: Dad ...

          Text 10

M: Hey, Gina. Do you happen to know where the movie theater is downtown?

W: Yeah. Look at the map and I’ll show you the way. You’re here to start, right? First, drive

down 1st street going west, cross the river, and keep going straight until Pine Street.

          M: Pine Street... yes.

W: Then turn left, and the movie theater is the second building on the right. It’s next to the

             church.

M: Got it. Now, can you suggest any nice restaurants?

W: Yeah. The Pink Flamingo serves excellent Italian food.

          M: Where’s that?

W: Well, starting from the movie theater, go south on Pine Street, cross 2nd Street, and drive to

3rd Street. You’ll see a parking lot on the left side of the street.

M: A parking lot on the left. Yes.

W: Then turn left on 3rd Street and drive east. The Pink Flamingo is the building just before the

river on the left side. Don’t cross the river.

          M: Great. Thanks a lot.

          Text 11

Well, for those who are out today, I have to tell you it is hot and wet for most of the state, with

the high temperatures in the low to mid 90’s. The city of Elkview has a high for the day of 97

degrees. I’m glad I’m working indoors today!

For those of you planning outdoor activities tomorrow, you can expect a nice day for most of

Saturday with temperatures in the high 90’s. However, things might change by Saturday evening

with a storm moving in. We can expect light showers over the northern part of the state bringing

slightly cooler temperatures in the 80’s, but this rain should die away by mid Sunday morning. It

will be partly cloudy for most of the morning, but these clouds should move out by mid-afternoon.

Skies should be clear on Sunday evening for those who want to watch the meteor shower, which

is pieces of rocks and metals travelling through space and falling down toward the earth. It should

start at 10:47 pm. And that’s all for today’s weather report.
