Firecrackers greet return of Chinese astronauts
China's second manned spacecraft returned on October 17 after orbiting the earth for five days. Astronauts
Fei Junlong, 40, and Nie Haisheng, 41, were flown to Beijing where they were given a hero's welcome after
their Shenzhou VI space capsule touched down in their remote steppes of the northern Chinese region of Inner
          Mongolia.
The two men were in good health after orbiting the earth 76 times covering 3.25 million kilometers. State
media hailed the mission as a technological breakthrough and this proved to the world China's power.
Soon after the craft landed at 4:33 am (20:33 GMT), barely l km (half a mile) from its target, jubilant
residents in Fei's and Nie's hometowns set off firecrackers and performed traditional dragon and lion dances,
          beating gongs and drums.
"The motherland is so great!" the official Xinhua news agency quoted Fei's father as saying. Fei's mother
wept on learning of his safe return.
State television gave live broadcast of the astronauts coming out of the spacecraft, unaided, and waving
to the recovery team, cameramen and photographers.
Tang Xianming, director of the Manned Space Engineering Officer, told a news conference that China
would aim for a spacewalk by 2007 and consider putting a woman in space in the near future.

A conflict at work is common. If you can avoid conflict, it means you will win what you want regardless of what the other person wants. Since the potential issue has not been removed, it will simply reappear later. Let’s see what you can do.

★Be aware of the fact that some conflicts are unavoidable at work. On numerous occasions, conflict and disagreement are likely to happen. But when a conflict happens it's not the end of the world. On the contrary, it can be the beginning of an interesting learning process. Conflicts mean that people care enough to disagree strongly. The trick is not to allow the conflict to go on forever.

★ Deal with conflicts sooner rather than later. Solve a conflict when it starts, as it only gets worse with time going by. Conflicts at work arise not from something that was said, but from something that wasn't said! Everyone's waiting for the other to admit he's wrong and gets more unpleasant after the conflict has lasted a while. It's essential to interrupt the "waiting game" before it gets to that point.

★Ask nicely. If somebody has done something that made you angry, or if you don't understand their viewpoint or actions, simply asking nicely about it can make a world of difference.  Never assume that people do what they do to annoy or hurt you. Sometimes there's a good reason why that person does what he or she does, and a potential conflict disappear right there. Do remember to make an inquiry, not an accusation of any sort.

★ Appreciate. Praise the other part in the conflict. Tell them why it's worth it to you to solve the conflict. This can be difficult as few people find it easy to praise and appreciate a person they disagree strongly with, but it's a great way to move forward.

Different countries and different races have different manners. Before entering a house in some Asian country, it is good manners to take off your shoes. In European countries even though shoes sometimes become very muddy, this is not done. A guest in a Chinese house sometimes does not finish a drink. He leaves a little to show that he has had enough. In a Malay house, too, a guest always leaves a little food. In England, a guest always finishes a drink to show that he enjoys it.

Here are some examples of the things that a well-mannered person does or does not do.

He never laughs at people when they are in trouble. He is always kind either to people or animals. When people are waiting for a bus, or in a post office he lines up to wait his turn. In the bus, he gives his seat to an older person or a lady who is standing. If he accidentally bumps (撞) into someone, or gets in their way, he says “Excuse me” or “ I’m sorry”.

He stands up when speaking to a lady or an older person, and he does not sit down until the other person is seated. He does not talk too much about himself. When eating he does not speak with his mouth full of food.

Have you ever had problems in your life and don't know how to be happy? If so, you will find the book
Being a Happy Teenager by Australian writer Andrew Mathews useful. In his book, Matthews tells us how
to have a happy life and answers the questions of teenagers. There are many subjects such as parents and
friends, and the book says we should stop being angry and learn to forgive others. The book tells us of useful
skills such as how to put what you have learned into pictures of your mind to make your memory better.
Many teenagers think that happiness comes from a good exam result of praise from other people. But you
can still be happy when there is no such "good thing". Success comes from a good attitude. If you learn from
problems, you will have success in the future. Some schoolboys have problems such as being too tall or too
short. But Matthews tells us happiness comes from thinking about things in a positive (積極的) way. If you
are tall, people notice you and you can get a better view at the movie; if you are short, your clothes and shoes
take less room in your bedroom! This is Matthews' most important lesson: you choose to be happy!

Good morning, everybody. My topic for today is "How Americans Value Time".
Americans from childhood think a great deal about time and they learn to value time very much. As
children, they are taught.that time is everything.
Time is money. A working American has to work hard for 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week. This is the
working time. In his spare time, he also works hard for more money. Even Saturday and Sunday are filled with
activities. In the street you can hardly see a man who walks slowly. They walk very fast. In fact, they are
          running.
Time is knowledge. No matter whether they go to work or go back home, they will take advantage of every minute to read on the buses, trains and ships.
Time is friendship. When an American is invited to dinner, he won't be late or get there too early. Otherwise, his arrival will make the others unhappy.
Seeing from above, we should learn from Americans to value every minute very much.
